Jon Geddes, MNI IIIMS

Jon Geddes is a seasoned maritime professional with more than 15 years of comprehensive experience across the offshore sector. His career spans hands-on command as Master on offshore workboats and crew transfer vessels through to senior management roles within a major offshore operator. Jon specialises in quality, compliance and standards, and holds an exceptional depth of knowledge in maritime legislation applicable to vessels under 500 GT—expertise that has become a hallmark of his consultancy work. He is highly qualified as an HS-OSC Examiner, ISM Lead Auditor, MCA/IYT Examiner, ISO 9001 Lead Auditor, MCA ISM DPA (Designated Person Ashore) and MCA Master, enabling him to bridge practical vessel operations with rigorous regulatory and management system oversight. Jon has led the development of more than five ISM- and flag-state-compliant Safety Management Systems and Integrated Management Systems, and is frequently engaged for incident investigations, pre-purchase inspections, compliance audits, and operational reviews. His consultancy portfolio also includes budget management, operational efficiency, crew development, and training needs analysis, along with expert-witness and specialist advisory services. Known for his clear communication and collaborative approach, Jon works closely with key stakeholders at organisational, governmental, and legislative levels. His unique combination of seagoing command, senior operational leadership, and deep regulatory insight positions him as a trusted expert in offshore maritime compliance, safety, and operational excellence. Jon is a professional member of the Nautical Institute, Institute for Leadership & Management and a technical member of IIMS and IMCA Jon has also sat in an advisory role on technical panels with the UK’s Workboat Association, MCA Qualification Board and IAMI (International Associstion of Maritime Industries). He continues to support with several industry steering groups.
